Another year has passed that
included both sad and happy occasions. Several friends and loved ones
have been lost, but also babies have been born and new friends have been
made. We have had horrible fires and floods here Way Out West. Let’s
hope that 2008 has fewer disasters.

There were gatherings of Corvette people throughout the year, and during
the holiday season these events were especially joyful and generous. The
Corvette community rallied throughout the West to participate in toy
runs where both donors and recipients had a great time.
Many
of our Registry members were part of the 65 Corvettes that participated
in a Christmas cruise to Camp Pendleton (near Oceanside, CA) where they
joined the Men’s Ministry of Cypress Church to share Christmas with
Marines about to deploy overseas. These young men and women were
thrilled to see the beautiful Corvettes, which made a great backdrop for
the day’s FUN and games. Donations in excess of $2,300 were raised for
the dedicated Marines and their families.
In November, the National Corvette Museum brought it’s much anticipated
High Performance Drivers Education (HPDE) to Spring Mountain Motorsports
Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada. One hundred instructors and students spent two
days learning about and enjoying their fabulous Corvettes. NCM Events
Manager, Roc Linkov did a wonderful job coordinating and instructing
this event. Roc pulled instructors from all over the country, including
Corvette’s own Vehicle Line Executive, Tom Wallace and Exterior Design
Manager, Kirk Bennion. The left coast Corvette Community was certainly
pleased to have the NCM bring this FUN and educational event Way Out
West.
The Los Angeles Auto Show has moved from the very beginning of the year
to November. Only the future will tell if we will be allowed to preview
new automobiles as much as we did in the past. Previously, the LA Auto
Show was held in January, at the same time as the North American
International Auto Show (NAIAS) was held in Detroit. In previous years
we were able to see the new 2005 C6 and the new 2006 Z06 the same day
that they were unveiled in Detroit. There was no special Corvette
unveiled at the LA Auto Show in November, but we did get to see the Jay
Leno Pratt & Miller C6RS that was unveiled at SEMA in
Las Vegas
