“C A L E F O R N I A”…
It is so cool the way Governor Schwarzenegger
says it! Walking through the San Jose Airport I felt like the Terminator was
with me every step of the way, at least his voice (at the baggage arrival area)
was enticing us to have a great time during our visit to California and that was
our plan!
The next five days at our Birthday Bash West was nothing but fantastic! Of
course the C5-R shook off its non-winning ways at Laguna Seca with a very
impressive first and second in its class. But the most fun I had was visiting
with our West Coast members at the corral, followed by our Registry dinner which
was a superb experience. I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard during a
wonderful presentation than the one Dick Guldstrand, our main dinner speaker,
delivered. Talk about early Corvette racing stories…
I believe Dick could go on for days!
This successful event could not have happened without the
continuous hard work of Janet and Mike Curran [C5R# W0477] and the local
connection of Mike Albov [C5R# K6811] who grew up in Monterey and from what I
can tell, ought to be the “Mayor.” While at the Laguna Seca race track Corvette
Corral activities were headed up fabulously by Buzz Marston [C5R# Y4432]
representing Western States Corvette Council and our favorite NCM.
During the entire weekend IMSA went out of its way to make all of us feel right
at home through the kindness of Executive Director Doug Robinson and a wonderful
friend of the Registry, Events Director Larry Hayes [C5R# L7100], who arranged
for all the Corvettes to have two laps on this very impressive track. As
everyone stated over and over, this is a fantastic race course and a spectacular
event. Members, put this on your calendar for next year.
Now for the Power Chat —
Our friends at Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) have come up with two
really impressive upgrades for your C5. LPE now has a High Flow C5 Corvette Fuel
Pump for 1997 to 2003 C5 Corvette and C5 custom made wheel well tubs.

LPE High Flow C5 Corvette
Fuel Pump Assembly |
|
The fuel pump module is
designed to be a high performance drop-in replacement for the stock fuel
pump assembly. This fuel pump was designed to be a direct replacement for
the 1997 – 2003 Corvette factory fuel pump. This fuel pump is perfect for
high output naturally aspirated engines along with supercharged or
turbocharged engines. This pump is rated at 225 liter/hour (60 gph) at 60
psi of fuel pressure at 13.5 volts. When installed in a C5 Corvette, this
pump can handle up to 600 HP, allowing for hot fuel handling and jet pump
operation. Boost referenced fuel systems and systems operating at higher
base fuel pressures will have slightly less flow capability due to the lower
flow at higher fuel pressure. |
For higher horsepower
applications, LPE suggests the addition of a Boost-A-Pump fuel pump voltage
booster. This pump has been durability tested at up to 17 volts continuous
operation. The high flow C5 fuel pump is the same pump as used in the LPE twin
turbocharged C5 Corvettes. This package includes pump, pump inlet filter,
housing and housing “sock” type filter.
Features:
Note: Later model 2003 Corvettes run a different fuel pump and tank
assembly — if questions on whether this new pump will fit a later 2003 model
call or email LPE’s sales department with VIN to see if this pump will fit. This
pump does not fit 2004 Corvettes.
Wanting to tub your C5?
LPE’s custom made wheel well tubs allow a factory looking
installation of up to 345 series tires and 12” wide wheels on the rear of the C5
Corvette. The mini tubs fit all 1997 – 2004 Corvette models. The kit includes
custom molded black plastic inner wheel well liners, interior fiberglass
extension panels, shock travel limiters, shock brackets and fastener kit. For
installation some small adjustments need to be made. Some minor carpet trimming
is required, as well as minor shock modifications. The factory plastic floor pan
needs to be cut and the new extension panels bonded to the floor. Inner wheel
well liners are a bolt in item using OEM style fasteners. Maximum suggested
sizes for wheels and tires are 345/30-19 tires and 19x12 wheels. The wheels must
be built with the correct offset to ensure the tire doesn’t protrude past the
edge of the fender.
Note: Front tire
diameters need to be kept in proportion to rear to maintain ABS
compatibility so if you change your rear tire diameter, you will need to
change your front tire diameter accordingly. The tub kit eliminates the
glass top stands. Z06 applications will not be able to use rear brake ducts.
Optional block offs are available to prevent air from pushing the tub into
your tire speed.
