As the new
C6’s began leaving Bowling Green buyers noticed that no
Corvettes were painted with the classic exterior color…Torch
Red. Magnetic and Precision Red were offered as replacement
colors for Torch Red beginning with the 2005 model year. The
Corvette Brand Team believed these colors were not as garish
and gave the C6 a classy look. Plant Manager Wil
Cooksey and GM Vice President Joe Spielman
did not agree with this decision. On June 25, 2004 this one
and only C6 was painted C5 Torch Red (1G1YY24U855100273)
by the factory and shipped to Detroit for color evaluation. |
Mr. Spielman presented this special Corvette to GM executives and
students from Kettering University. They all agreed that this C6
Corvette looked fantastic in Torch Red. After a little give and take
(politics are somehow always involved) it was decided to offer
Victory Red as a new C6 color since Torch Red was officially
discontinued after the 2004 model year. This one of a kind factory
assembled Torch Red C6 Coupe is now on display at the National
Corvette Museum. The Official C5/C6 Registry is happy that Corvette
has insightful leaders like Wil and Joe listening to their
enthusiasts!
